Alberta Elk Hunting - Rocky Mountain Elk Hunts
Be sure to watch our Rocky Mountain elk hunting videos!
Our mountain horseback elk hunts start on September 17 and run until
the end of November. Our elk hunting areas are the upper Clearwater
River valley, Lost Guide Lake and Forbidden Creek. It is bordered
on the west by Banff National Park and to the south by the Ya ha
Tinda Ranch which is one of the largest elk wintering areas in western
Canada. The upper portion of our elk hunting area is closed to motorized vehicles
and is accessible by horseback or team and wagon only. The elk are still in the rut in September and early October and
hunting during this time can be quite successful.
Our mountain elk hunting area is a trophy only zone - 6 point or larger
bulls are the only elk taken. We average 300-320 B&C with some
bulls as large as 370 B&C. Our success rate over the last 3
years is about 75% kill and 90% opportunity. Our
mountain elk hunts are 10 day hunts and are run out of our very
comfortable tent camp during the September & October hunts and
from our mobile bunkhouse for the November elk hunts.
Due to the high altitude and
early winter conditions we try to be out of our upper camp by the
end of October. If you desire a late mountain hunt we would hunt
the lower end of our mountain area until the end of November, which
is accessible by ATV.
Alberta Elk Hunting - Ranchland Elk Hunts:
Ranchland Alberta elk hunts take place from November 1-November 30. These
hunts are on and around our ranch which is located on the edge of
the foothills of the Rocky Mountains northwest of Calgary. This
is a 6 day spot and stalk elk hunt. This elk hunting area allows for an
elk 3 points or larger. This is a very exciting hunting experience
with a lot of big bulls in the area.
We have lived here for many years and we know the area very well.
We have access to some very good private and public land. Accommodations
are at my ranch or a nearby guest ranch, depending on the number
in your party.
