Alberta Hunting Information
Lost Guide Outfitters, Hunting Outfitters & Guides
Hunting Information:
Our hunting season begins in mid August
to early Sept. with resident sheep hunts being our first quarry which
allows us to scout the area for Elk, Moose and Deer for our non-resident
clients. Our non-resident season begins on September 17 opening day
for our Elk and Deer hunts followed by our non-resident Moose hunts
which opens on September 24.
Due to the high altitude and early winter conditions we try to be
out of our upper camp by the end of October. If you desire a late
mountain hunt we would hunt the lower end of our mountain area until
the end of Nov. which is accessible by ATV. The upper portion of our
area is closed to motorized vehicles and is accessible by horseback
or team and wagon only.
Our Mountain Hunts are 10 day hunts and are run out of our very comfortable
tent camp or mobile bunkhouse for the November hunts. Our mountain
area includes the upper Clearwater River Valley, Forbidden Creek and
Lost Guide Lake. It is bordered by Banff National Park to the west
and Ya-ha-Tinda ranch to the south.
November 1 is the start of our ranchland hunts. These hunts are on
and around our ranch which is located on the edge of the foothills
about 11/2 hrs. NW of Calgary. As we have lived here for many years
we know the area very well and have access to some very good private
and public land. You can hunt for Elk, Moose or Deer or you can combine
any or all three. Accommodations are provided at our ranch or depending
on the number in your party at a nearby guest ranch.
All hunts include pickup and return to Calgary airport, all meals
and accommodation during the hunt. Your trophies and meat will be
carefully looked after, taxidermy, processing and shipping can be
arranged.
Booking Requirements
- Reservations are required and are
confirmed upon receipt of a 50% non-refundable deposit.
- All deposits are bonded and insured
by the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS)
- Cancellation Policy: If we
cancel a hunt, deposits will be refunded or applied to another
hunt, which ever you choose. Otherwise, there is a 90-day cancellation
policy. Hunts canceled prior to the 90-day limit may have their
deposit applied to a hunt or hunter in the same year. Deposits
for hunts canceled within the 90-day limit will not be refunded.
- Payments: A $500.00 US deposit
will get you a spot in camp. The deposit is increased to 50% no
later than 31 January of the hunt year, and the balance is payable
30 days prior to the hunt date. A hunt information/booking package
will be issued upon booking a hunt. A hunt is not considered booked
until the deposit has been received by Lost Guide Outfitters.
Wildlife Identification Number (W.I.N)
W.I.N is simply a permanent number
received in advance, to help speed up the licensing process here in
Alberta. Only return clients who have hunted Alberta during the fall
of 1998 or later will have this new number already. WIN numbers will
be purchased with licenses upon your arrival. There is an application
cost of $8.56 CDN.
Transportation
Hunters fly in to Calgary, Alberta.
Travel agencies that can be contacted are Uniglobe Travel at 877-669-3270
Hunters may also drive up to our camp if they wish. We have found
that transportation of meat and antlers presents fewer problems if
the hunters are transporting it by vehicle rather than taking it on
the plane. If you prefer to drive,
we will send you a map with directions upon booking your hunt.
Firearms Licensing
For hunters who bring their own firearms
into Canada, a confirmed Non-Resident Firearm Declaration (form JUS
909 EF) will serve as a licence and registration. You require a Canadian
Firearms license in order to bring your firearms into Canada. We can
help you with this, but you must give us advance notice.
The Non-Resident
Firearms Declaration (Form
JUS 909 E/F), must be presented in triplicate, unsigned,
to a Canada Customs officer at your first point of entry into Canada.
You may click the link above and complete the form online (Adobe Acrobat
Reader is required). There is a $50.00 CDN fee which is not included
in the price of the hunt.
